How to interpret works of art, interior design, architecture, 1

Sometimes we look at the painting, sculpture, observe details of interior design or architecture of building and feel – there is something more. It is “hovering” around, but we can not “catch” it. We feel there is something what exist beyond the colors, shapes and materials.

Could I find out where are ideas of architecture, interior design, fine arts?

Artists and people who loves art are more or less naturally gifted with the ability of intuitive grasp of artwork ideas. Might be, it is similar as many people can read and understand what is written in the newspaper article without deep thinking about it.

There is good news – ability to understand art can be developed. There is number of ways to “read” ideas of the paintings, interiors, sculptural or architectural compositions.

If to say in one sentence, it would be – it is necessary – to “collect” maximum of your attention from every corner of your mind or around it – to focus on piece of art – and to develop and discover an idea.

Gradually you will develop your ability better to communicate with objects in space, materials and their properties. Your ability to read a thoughts and ideas that are consciously or unconsciously “left” in a various physical objects, lines, colors, textures and forms will increase or will born, if you haven`t got it, yet…

Orientation and observation. Attention exercise in 2D and 3D (length, width, height)

A person can understand something when:

1 ) he/she have sufficient mental capacity, which could be used for observation. Call it ability to focus on content.

2) person have sufficient mental resources or mental space, as well. Call it the amount of the memory.

3) observer is willing to understand something. Call it intention or intensity of interest.

If a person will have, develop and properly apply those qualities, he will be more or less able to understand some process or something about an object. Many people consciously or unconsciously are doing it every day. However, quality of perception or “sharpness” of awareness depends on – the amount of memory or mental space and how much desire or interest and attention a person has and can use to understand what is idea of this painting or any other work of art.

All three components can be developed and thereby significantly increase abilities. Please, read and practice each component of perception.

1. Amount of attention

The main strength of our intellectual resources is attention. The question is whether we have enough particles of attention, if attention would be expressed in particles or if we have enough energy of attention, if attention be called energy.

Imagine someone working on the computer. A person visited one website, several pages of other website, it was downloaded some program, opened one more video to watch… he/she does not close any opened program or visited websites: computer begin to work more slowly. Almost all of the computer’s operating memory is used (operating memory is computer memory designed to work with a current information at the present time). Computer slows down, the messages show up on the screen that is not enough operating memory and is asked to turn off some of the programs or the computer can even stop to work.

Compare computer with a mind for a while. For example person drives a car (car driving program is on), he thinks about a movie which saw yesterday (yesterday’s activity viewer program is on), she feels that is getting chilly ( program about the temperature of the air automatically turned on), she closed the window (air temperature decrease – solution program on), see trees, houses across the street (images of surroundings transferring program is on). It looks like human mind or mental computer simultaneously works with several applications. Computer of your mind may be not troubled to work with similar amount of information, but in the event of more serious incidents, the mind can have troubles to process greater amount of computer programs at the same time.

To understand art and perform first practical exercise, we need the maximum possible amount of human attention. It is necessary to collect maximal amount of potentially possible to have particles or energy to focus on something. We need to clear our mind as compared with the computer: “to clean” computer`s monitor or screen – it means to turn some of the programs off (to stop the car), to close some websites ( to leave thoughts about yesterday’s movie), etc. It would be the best thing to do – turn all applications off and exit from every website, leaving a blank screen – empty mind. Some programs can not be turned off, can be “stuck” – it may affect us even not knowing about it, maybe just having a way feeling that some kind of program is using our attention and memory. However, this time we will not go further into the computer (mind) repair or correction of errors in programs. We will work with the computer or mind what we got.

Exercise 1.1 Computer screen cleaning – mind space clearing. The task you can perform in the room or any space inside or outside.

“Scatter” the attention. Quite quickly or gradually increasing sight`s “jogging” speed – look around. Look to any point in space and realize that you looked at it. Your focus particle come from you and reach a wall as an example. It is better to choose the sharper corners, lines, points, located in the surrounding environment or space. It can be furniture, lamps, room walls, ceiling or floor corners; the exact points, lines, or planes. Outdoors it could be – walls, roof edges, etc. Car shapes are a little bit too round, but if you’re able to send your attention exactly to a certain point and bring attention back – exactly aware of where your attention was and that returned back, it is what we need. You have to feel that you put like invisible or visible line in the mind of the point from which you are looking at – from the point of view to the point which you your attention visited and came back to point of view. Then again make pretty quick “glance” to the next point and remember that it is intentional actions, how much is possible. Become aware of – the point of view, points which your attention has visited, invisible lines between them or trajectory lines of attention`s particles or energy. This activity should clean up your computer screen or clear your mind. Your yesterday’s or tomorrow’s thoughts should be like “shut down” – more or less you will be here and now.

If there are some thoughts which are not “switching off “, for example, I forgot to close the window in the kitchen – go and close it; you still remember yesterday’s argument with a friend and mentally it is still here… – call or talk with your friend – more or less fix the problem.

When performing a task you can be visited by the various moods. You can begin to yawn. Yawn – it’s a good sign. It shows that you’ve mastered the focus particles that are or was “sleeping” or, perhaps, have not been used for a long time. “Go” – into a yawning direction.

You may feel sleepy or drowsy during exercise but you should continue until feel fresh and more cheerful. You should feel better and to see more clear the surrounding objects, the shapes, the colors. It can lead to new ideas and thoughts also.

Repeat exercise any time and anywhere. Especially when you feel a little sleepy, drowsy or distracted. Scatter your attention particles and collect them back with the results of the “trip – out and back” – while you stand in the shop and wait in the line; on the street, in the garden, when you go to work or wake up in the morning.

This activity could become part of your daily routine as a morning physical exercises, cleaning your teeth, having a shower and a breakfast. We could call it – awakening of attention.

You collected your attention energy or units which is possible to use now to understand something.
